The Keep Austin Weird 5k
Its less about racing and more about celebrating the unique culture that defines Austin. There is more to this festival than just the 5k, there will be games, music and even a pizza-eating contest. There is no better way to spend a great summer day in Austin. Bring the kids and the dogs as there is also a kids K and special costume contests for them as well as a pet and owner look alike contest.

As for the race, serious competitors can jump ahead but the most fun will be in the back where the competition is all about whose costume will be the most crazy and outrageous. There are several different categories but judges love to see costumes that exemplify the spirit of Austin and its weirdness. With the race being held in the evening its already different from the usual 5k. Most runners' favorite part of the race is the aid stations lining the side. It's always a surprise to see what will be offered at each station, it could be anything from ice cream to a cold bear or even Sweet Leaf tea.

The festival details-
Where: Auditorium Shores
When: June 28, which is officially Keep Austin Weird Day.
Times: Gates will open at 12pm and the 5k will start at 6pm.

After the race the festivities continue with live music from some great local bands, including World Gone Bad, as well as food provided by a long list of local vendors like Amy's Ice Cream, Mangia's pizza and Thundercloud Subs.
